Review Guidelines

Apollo’s Mission

We started Apollo for a couple of reasons:

  1. To help bitcoiners share knowledge about their experiences with different products
  2. To help new bitcoiners navigate the ‘rabbit hole’, using the best asset we have as a community: the hard-earned experience of people who’ve been through it already

We hope to accomplish that - at least in part - with high quality, trustworthy product reviews.

We want you, as the Reviewer, to (1) feel like you both understand what our expectations are for what an ‘Apollo review’ looks like, and also (2) that you’re probably incentivized to write them.

What are the Guidelines?

Our definition of a good review: it helps someone make a use or purchase decision about a product or service. That’s a fairly broad definition and can be satisfied in many different ways. However, some types of review clearly won’t be helpful, and so as a matter of policy, we will remove or deny them.

These are our rules for reviews:

1. Your review must demonstrate the actual use of the product

A review must be based on real experience with a product. The more descriptive and nuanced, the better. Try to give people a sense of what it’s actually like as a user.

It’s not good enough to simply describe a product, list its features, and copy + paste language from that company’s website, or from a Google search.

If it doesn’t look to us like you’ve actually used the product, we can’t publish your review.

2. No spam (or spam-like behavior)

Anything off-topic, misleadingly wrong (e.g. talking about features a product doesn’t have), or otherwise irrelevant won’t be published.

2. No low-effort reviews

We won’t publish one-liners or obviously low-effort stuff. Again, the goal is to publish helpful reviews. It’s great if you love a product, but simply saying “I love it!” isn’t particularly helpful to someone who hasn’t also used it.

Similarly, posting many reviews in quick succession is likely to result in us denying them. Writing 10 quick reviews is a signal that you’re not putting much thought into them.

3. Stay kid-friendly and don't use inappropriate language

No swearing, abusive language, or anything defamatory. Let's keep Apollo safe for the next Bitcoin generation. It’s fine to talk about poor experiences with a company - we encourage it! - but keep it objective and verifiable.

If your review has been denied

At all times you can see your pending reviews on your profile page. If one review doesn’t pass moderation at first attempt, you’ll be notified (in the app, and via email). The review will stay pending, allowing you to make edits and re-submit if you like.
